Investment Castings of Precipitation Hardening Stainless Steel

Short Description:

Material: Precipitation Hardening Stainless Steel 17-4PH, 15-5PH

Casting Process: Investment Casting

For precipitation hardening steel castings containing copper, the hardness of the steel castings is increased due to the precipitation of hard copper-rich phases in the as-cast state during the cooling process. In order to soften the structure and improve the processing performance, such steel castings require solution heat treatment. The solid solution temperature of precipitation hardening steel castings containing copper is generally 900 ℃ ~ 950 ℃. After cooling, a supersaturated single-phase structure with a copper mass fraction of 1.0% ~ 1.5% can be obtained.

The main purpose of solid solution treatment of stainless steel castings is to dissolve carbides or other precipitated phases in solid solution to obtain a supersaturated single-phase structure. Castings of austenitic stainless steel, austenitic manganese steel and precipitation hardening stainless steel should generally be solid solution treated.

Martensitic precipitation hardening stainless steel generally contains carbon in less than 0.1%. Strengthen by adding hardening elements (copper, aluminum, titanium and aluminum, etc.) to make up for the lack of strength. The chromium content is generally higher than 17%, and an appropriate amount of nickel is added to improve the corrosion resistance.

Maraging precipitation hardening stainless steel is a kind of alloy steel with carbon content not higher than 0.03% to ensure the toughness, corrosion resistance, weldability and workability of the martensite matrix, and 12% chromium to ensure corrosion resistance. In addition, the alloy element cobalt is added to further improve the heat treatment effect of the steel.

Semi-austenitic precipitation hardening stainless steel, that is, transitional precipitation hardening stainless steel, containing no less than 12% chromium. It has low carbon content, and aluminum as its main precipitation hardening element. This kind of precipitation hardening stainless steel has better overall performance than martensitic precipitation hardening stainless steel.

Austenitic precipitation hardening stainless steel is a stainless steel with stable austenite structure in both quenched and aging states. Its nickel content and manganese content are high, and the chromium content is higher than 13% to ensure good corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance. At the same time, austenitic precipitation hardening stainless steel usually adds titanium, aluminum, vanadium or phosphorus as precipitation hardening elements, and adds a small amount of boron, vanadium, nitrogen and other elements to obtain excellent comprehensive properties.
