Chemical composition and microstructure

The chemical composition of AISI 430 stainless steel is mainly composed of Cr, with a content between 11.5% and 14.5%. This high chromium content gives the material excellent antioxidant and corrosion resistance. At the same time, it contains a trace amount of Mo, usually between 0.50% and 1.50%, which further enhances its resistance to certain specific corrosive media. The content of Si, P and S is strictly controlled to ensure the purity of the material and the stability of its mechanical properties. In terms of microstructure, AISI 430 presents a ferrite grain morphology, which not only enhances the strength of the material, but also optimizes its toughness and processing performance.

Mechanical properties and heat treatment

The tensile strength of AISI 430 stainless steel is usually between 485MPa and 620MPa, and the yield strength is about 205MPa. It has good hardness, ductility and impact toughness. Through appropriate heat treatment, such as annealing or normalizing, its mechanical properties can be further optimized, such as increasing yield strength and reducing brittleness, while maintaining excellent corrosion resistance. Especially in high temperature environments, AISI 430 stainless steel can maintain good stability and is not prone to oxidation or thermal embrittlement.
